About the Event

A spectacular evening of classical music.

Tickets are now available to purchase on the gates only, subject to availability.

Enjoy one of the highlights of the summer as The Darley Park Concert returns for another spectacular evening of classical music and fireworks.

Back as part of The Darley Park Weekender, the firm favourite will be delighting crowds once again with a captivating performance of classical music, followed by a dazzling display of fireworks to round off the weekend. The theme for this year's concert is Music from the Movies.

Sinfonia Viva will provide the stunning music in the beautiful surroundings of Darley Park, making it the perfect event for family and friends to enjoy together. Don’t forget to bring your picnic!

Sinfonia Viva music programme

Derby's very own orchestra, Sinfonia Viva, has been as the heart of The Darley Park Weekender for the past three decades, creating joyful and inspiring performances that make every visit a special memory. Last year, 2,738 children and young people took part in the orchestra's creative projects. Beyond Darley Park, they are about to start a new season of concerts and family events at Derby Cathedral and the Museum of Making.

Conductor: Timothy Redmond

Timothy Redmond is a regular guest conductor with the London Symphony and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras, co-founder of the international conducting masterclasses And Other Duties and is conductor and co-creator of the Royal Albert Hall’s My Great Orchestral Adventure™ concert series.

Soloist: Nicky Spence (Tenor)

Opera Singer Nicky Spence is an artist and broadcaster aiming to bring more people to classical music than ever before. Upcoming appearances include Peter Grimes (Welsh National Opera) and a return to Glyndebourne Festival and Royal Opera House to sing Boris Katya Kabanova and Laca Jenůfa respectively.

DJ Sapphire

Derby born DJ Sapphire has been DJing for 15 years. Her show on YouTube went viral in March 2023. She’s now the number one DJ specialising in Smooth Jazz in the World.

The Derby West Indian Community Association Steel Pans

The DWICA Steel Pans is a community-based group set up to bring steel band music to the city of Derby and further afield. They specialise in supporting carnivals, festivals, schools, and family celebrations also play for private and corporate functions where suitable.

DWICA Steel Pans can perform with anything between 2 and 8 players and will select the right size ensemble to match the occasion. We are led by Lionel McCalman former leader of Nostalgia Steelband and renown as a “godfather” of steel band music in the UK. Our performances are normally up to 2 hours in 20-30 minute sets but we can adjust to suit the mood and requirements of the day. The DWICA Steel Pans play a mixture of Reggae, Soca, and popular songs and will always strike the right note to bring the energy and joy of steel band music to your event.

University Hospitals Derby & Burton Choir

The UHDB Staff Wellbeing Choir was founded by Air Arts, as a way to support wellbeing for the Staff of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton during the Covid Pandemic. Led by Felicity Biacsi, they sing an eclectic mix of songs and the main aim is to have a great time whilst singing great music! Since forming they have had some brilliant performance opportunities, including performing in Lichfield Cathedral and Derby Cathedral, as well as releasing a Charity Single for Derby and Burton Hospital's Charity which was recorded with Derby Cathedral Choir and released on Spotify. They are so excited to perform at The Darley Park Concert and collaborate with Sing Viva!

Sing Viva

Sing Viva, Sinfonia Viva’s community choir, is dedicated to caregivers. They perform a diverse range of choral favourites and welcome sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses. They are delighted to be returning to the Darley Park stage. Please note under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Early bird prices until 31 Jul 2024 are £5 for adults and £2 for under 16s.

From 1 Aug 2024 to 31 Aug 2024 tickets are £7 for adults and £4 for under 16s.

On the day prices are £10 for adults and £5 for under 16s.

What is the Wheelchair Viewing Platform?

A raised platform with a prime view of the stage. It has ramped access and a charging point for power wheelchairs.

The accessible viewing area is situated directly in front of the accessible viewing platform.

Toilets are located near the entrance and by the stage.
Only assistance and guide dogs are allowed.
Wear weather appropriate clothing and footwear, and check the forecast beforehand.
No re-admission once you leave the event.
All standard booking terms and conditions apply, including:
Tickets are non-refundable.
Lost tickets cannot be replaced. You must purchase a new one.
The event will not be cancelled unless there's a health and safety risk.
Darley Park is open to the public except for the event area.
Smoke machines, strobe lights, pyrotechnics, and other effects may be in use at this event.
For safety reasons, and to ensure the comfort of those attending the event, the management reserves the right to reduce the overall footprint of your chosen seating area.

Getting here & entry

Arrive early for security checks – customers are limited to:

one small bag per person (45cm x 25cm x 20cm).
one picnic blanket or camping chair per person.

The main event entrance is by the river footpath, with signs in the park to guide you.
No cloakroom or storage available. Any items left at entrances will be disposed of.
The on-site box office, located near the entrance, allows collection of pre-purchased tickets and purchases on the day (subject to availability).
Last entry for the event will be 8:30pm on Friday and Saturday and 8pm on Sunday.

Parking

We encourage eco-friendly travel options like walking or using public transport whenever possible.

Limited pre-booked car parking is available at Deans Field for £10 per car (accessible via Darley Street).
Off-site parking options are also available at Chapel Street and Assembly Rooms car parks (pay-and-display).
Blue Badge holders can park at the Darley Street car park, Poplar Row, Darley Abbey, Derby DE22 1DU (pre-bookable when purchasing tickets for the Accessible Viewing Area or Wheelchair Viewing Platform). Visit The Darley Park Weekender Access page for information on the accessible entrance.
A bike parking area is located outside the event entrance (bikes left at owner's risk).

Security

Security may search you and your bag upon entry, including the use of search wands. Please arrive early to ensure enough time to go through the search points.
You could also be searched once you are in the event.
Challenge 25 is in effect. Be prepared to show a valid photo ID (passport, driving license, or PASS ID) at the entrances and inside the event when purchasing or drinking alcohol.
Security personnel will be present both inside and outside the event for your safety.
CCTV cameras will be in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
We collaborate closely with police and emergency services for a secure event. There will be police patrols around the event and local area.
If you see something that doesn’t look right, let a member of security or the police know straight away.

What items are not allowed into the event

Glass or ceramic items (including bottles, jars, etc).
Knives or cutlery (except wooden and plastic).
Barbecues (including disposable barbeques and camping stoves).
Flags, flag poles, large umbrellas (1 metre or more), selfie sticks.
Trolleys, hampers or cool boxes. Please note: cool bags are allowed within the specified bag size limits (45cm x 25cm x 20cm).
Unmanned aerial vehicles/devices (drones).
Unauthorised merchandise, including any goods using unauthorised event logos or unofficial tabards, unauthorised reflective jackets.
Medication, unless recognisable or accompanied by a doctor’s note or prescription.
Flammable items (flaming torches, fireworks, candles, lanterns, etc).
Shelters (tents, gazebos), kites, tables or bikes.
Generators, spray cans, aerosols, smoke or gas devices/canisters/cylinders.
Sound systems, megaphones or air-horns.
Weapons, dangerous items or lasers.
Zoom lenses or professional filming equipment.
Unidentifiable substances or illegal drugs.

Confiscated items cannot be returned upon exiting the site.

Food & drinks

You can bring food for personal consumption within the permitted bag size.
No alcohol can be brought into the event on Friday or Saturday (any will be confiscated at entry).
Limited alcohol allowed into the event on Sunday:

4 unopened cans of beer/cider/wine/premixed spirits per adult
OR 1 sealed plastic bottle of wine/prosecco/champagne (75cl) per adult

Children under 18 cannot bring alcohol.
Sealed soft drink and water non-glass bottles/cartons (up to 500ml) or empty plastic/metal bottles (up to 1L) for refilling at free water stations are permitted.
No glass items permitted, including glass bottles and drinking glasses. See more under What items are not allowed into the event.
